Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Shirley Ballas takes SWIPE at former contestant in shock snub | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Friday’s instalment of Strictly Come Dancing companion series It Takes Two is always an hour long, and as such, the Zoe Ball-presented show features a “Friday panel” of celebrities and various segments not normally on the rest of the week.

Tonight’s opening featured a mock-serious competition between the panellists, but former contestant Alexandra Burke and TV puppet star Basil Brush became the finalists.

Alexandra gave it her all to a soul classic, and swung her arms around dramatically.

Basil on the other hand, donned a bright pink feather boa and got down to a 90s dance hit on the BBC programme.

As the pair waited for their fates in anguish, Zoe, 47, switched to Shirley Ballas for the verdict.

Sharing her feelings on the performance, Shirley explain it was all down to “timing”.

Unfortunately, Alexandra instantly thought the judge was talking about her dance moves on the show.

“Due to great timing, and sophistication, I’m going to choose Basil,” Shirley suddenly declared.

Horrified, Alexandra’s jaw dropped almost immediately, and the singer proceeded to pretend she was going to cry.

On the other side of the screen, a smug Basil declared: “Boom boom, roll titles!”

Also on the show, presenter Gethin Jones interviewed Stacey Dooley, Ashley Roberts, Faye Tozer and Lauren Steadman ahead of this weekend’s performances.

Ashley spilled all on her experience with the brand new studio at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, but revealed she’s had to have her costume adapted for her all-important Jive.

“Maybe the bounce will help me in the Jive,” she reasoned, referring to the ballroom’s specially bouncy floor for dancers.

“But it’s slippery out there,” the contestant shared. “So I need a bit of extra rubber on those babies.”

Ashley also spilled all on her activities in the iconic English city.

“I didn’t know riding a donkey was what to do here,” she admitted in response to Gethin’s joke about the activity.

“I will look out for that little donkey and I will give it a ride.”

Making her fellow contestants Lauren Steadman, Stacey Dooley and Faye Tozer giggle, Ashley then declared: “I was at a fish and chip shop yesterday!”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6.45pm on BBC one.
