Partnered with Karen Clifton, 36, Sunday Brunch presenter Simon was the fifth contestant eliminated from the competition.
However, after Strictly’s Blackpool show last night, Simon’s co-host Tim Lovejoy, 50, couldn’t help but tease the former Strictly star about how Karen performed on the Channel 4 breakfast show.
Karen scored her highest score of the series when she and celebrity partner Charles Venn, 45, were awarded 38 for their Samba on the show.
Coming joint third on the leaderboard, Karen was left in tears as she was overwhelmed with emotion, having previously struggled to score higher than 25 with Charles.
Discussing the couple’s success, Tim taunted Simon about not making it to Blackpool, as well as how well Karen had done without him.
“Look away now because Strictly was on last night and they made it to Blackpool,” Tim told Simon.
He continued: “They decided to do this year the same as last year – to take all the good dancers to Blackpool.
“Last year, Karen didn’t make it to Blackpool, this year she did and boy was she happy.
“She’s got this dancer with really nice abs, have you seen him?” Tim asked Simon as he continued to tease him about Karen.
“Look how happy she looks,” Tim added as Simon simple nodded his head at his co-hosts earlier remark.
“She’s just acting, she’s just acting, she’s really disappointed,” Simon joked as he jokingly hid his jealousy.
Viewers took to Twitter to try and defend Simon, with one writing: “The Strictly joke isn’t getting old at all, no, nope SundayBrunch,” supposedly in a sarcastic tone.
Another added: “Love the banter between Tim and Simon, but it’s time Tim put his feet where his mouth is #SundayBrunch,” hinting Tim should sign up to take part.
Later on in the programme, viewers sent in their pictures of them in Blackpool at Tim’s request to further taunt Simon, with the chef jokingly saying: “I hate our viewers.”
Karen also suffered a wardrobe malfunction last night on Strictly after the excitement of her Samba routine with Charles.
After the dance ended, streamers descends from the ceiling, with Karen getting embroiled in the paper decorations.
The couple were supposed to be receiving their scores from the judges, however, the wardrobe malfunction caused some disruption with host Tess Daly, 49, having to step in.
“Are you alright darling?” Tess asked before adding: “We are live, absolutely live. Let go of those.”
However, Ashely Roberts, 37, just managed to outdo the pair by securing the first 40 of the series for her Jive.
Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 9.30am on Channel 4. Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.20pm on BBC One.
