At least one person was killed and two other wounded after a gunman opened fire at a hospital in Chicago on Monday, local media reported.
Authorities said the suspected shooter was also dead, though it was not known if he took his own life or was killed.
The two injured included a police officer and a Mercy Hospital employee, police said.
According to Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, police searched the hospital after the shooting. The hospital said on Twitter the shooting was over and patients were safe.

The shooting apparently began as the suspect was walking with a woman near a parking lot of the hospital. He turned and repeatedly shot the woman in the chest. He then entered the hospital and continued firing, witness James Gray told reporters.
Sue Jimenez, the manager of a bike shop near the hospital, said she heard multiple gunshots separated by pauses. At one point, she heard five shots in quick succession, she said, but the shooting stopped after police arrived.
Police have not commented on a possible motive for the shooting.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police Superintendent Eddie Johnson were on their way to University of Chicago hospital, where the wounded police officer was being treated, according to local media.
Meanwhile, police were investigating a shooting in downtown Denver, Colorado. According to local media, one person was killed and four others were injured in the shooting. It is unclear if a suspect has been taken into custody.
